SUBMARINE SOUNDTRACK// RAINY MORNINGS

In England the weather has been 

acting like a fully fledged hormonal teenager 

lately with thunderstorms, rain, hail, the odd

bit of sunshine and blustery winds galore.

Just the way we like it. Not.

But if there's one thing this type

of weather is good for, it's creating those

cosy mornings where you look out the window at said

weather cocooned in your pj's or dressing gown,

steaming mug of tea in one hand, choolate biscuit in

the other and sigh as you think to yourself,

'I'm so glad I'm not going out in that!'

This happened to me on Sunday, when, 

although I had to go volunteering out in the rain and wind

for five hours (dedication), I had that exact same cosy,

cocooned feeling. And when that feeling or moment

hits you, I can tell you the perfect thing you want

to be listening to: 

The Submarine soundtrack.

It was written for the brilliant Richard Ayode film interpretation of the novel by Joe Dunthorn way back 

when in 2011 by my all time favourite man crush, 

Alex Turner off of the Arctic Monkeys, my all time 

favourite band.

Submarine is one of my favourite films and the soundtrack

is one of the best ever written because in true Turner 

style the lyrics are complex and enigmatic, with a gorgeous  metaphoric beauty, all sung in soft gentle tones by

the man himself.

It's mind boggling music that somehow sets your mind and 

soul at peace and almost seems to light up a dark and empty

room with a hazy gentle glow, and that my friend, is what makes this soundtrack utterly perfect for those gloomy rainy days.

1) LEWIS WATSON

Born and bred in Oxford, UK, 21 year old Lewis'

voice plays like a charm.

He writes his own material, and sings so beautifully

that you kind of want to make

sure you have a tissue present to catch those odd

tears that might escape from your eyes every now and then.

If you love the style favoured by

Ed Sheeran, that gentle, sweet, catchy sound

with vocals and lyrics to match,

you're really going to love Lewis Watson.

2) ARIELLE VANDENBERG

The stunning American beauty you see in the photo

above is the gorgeous Arielle Vandenberg. If I had to pick

a girl crush, it would be her. I think she's amazing.

And let me tell you why:

1) Have you seen her face? It's like it's been

chiseled by angels!!!

2) THOSE CHEEKBONES. Please give me some as

mine are as utterly non existent as my love life.

3) She's Alex Turner's girlfriend, and I love Alex Turner

and anything or anyone related to the Monkeys.

4) HER PERSONALITY IS AMAZING!!!

Seriously, if you watch any of her vines, or

follow Arielle on Instagram, you will be creasing with laughter,

because this girl posses more than a few funny bones

in her body.

She's like that infuriatingly pretty popular girl at school

that you want to hate but YOU CAN'T because she's so nice

and funny and amazing and lovely and 

ooooh you just really want to be friends with her.

I would be jealous of anyone lucky enough to date Alex Turner,

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT,

I can't be jealous of Arielle in the slightest because

I really do think she's amazing, and if Turner has to be taken,

I'm glad he's taken by Arielle.

She's awesome.

And if they ever split I think I would actually be 

annoyed at Al for letting her go.

Arielle if you ever read this, please can I be your English best friend?

3) SAM CLAFLIN AND LAURA HADDOCK

These two may just have made it to the top

of my favourite couples ever list. The picture you can see was 

taken yesterday at London premiere of the Hunger Games 'CATCHING FIRE', 

in which Sam plays District Four hunk Finnick Odair.

New wife Laura played the hilarious Alison in the absolutely

wonderful Inbertweeners movie and so you just

might remember her face. In a magazine I've read before,

Laura said that when she met Sam, as soon as their eyes

met she knew he was the one, and that she later found out that he felt that feeling too at exactly the same time. 

HOW ADORABLE/ CUTE/ AMAZING/ SWEET IS THAT?!?!?!?

AND NOW THEIR MARRIED! And I'm jealous because

I want that to happen to me one day. I want to find a love like theirs,

because it was so beautiful and lovely to see the two

of them so in love. They couldn't take their eyes off one another and 

they just seemed to be having such a wonderful time together,

and oooooooooh I want that so bad.

4) HARRY POTTER

You ought to know that I am such a Potterhead.

I adore these books with a passion. 

J K Rowling's talent never ceases to amaze me;

I don't know how she came up with this whole other dimension,

a world so different to our own, and fine tuned

the details so beautifully and believably that it almost

seems a crime to say that it isn't true.

How she crafted this magical world to such depths,

and weaves story lines, characters and those magical concoctions

together so perfectly and complexly is beyond me.

When people dare to say that J K Rowling

is below other authors because her books have been a bigger success commercially does my nut in, because I'm sorry

but ARE YOU BLIND?

DO YOU WANT ME TO GET YOU A NICE CHUNKY PAIR OF GLASSES?

Because how you can dare to overlook the amazingness of Rowling's

novels is unjustifiable in my eyes.

If you stop for only a moment to marvel

just what she has done, the lengths she has gone to to create

this magical dimension and build it up from

scratch into a reality that seems so real, 

your brain just might explode because I can't do that,

chances are you couldn't either.

TO HER FOR WRITING THESE WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL BOOKS

5) SLUMVILLE SUNRISE

Mr Bugg has come out with another fabulous creation

from upcoming second album, 'Shangri La', named after the rather

groovy Californian studios of the same name where he recorded

the majority, if not all, of the album.

This little beauty is called 'Slumville Sunrise',

and the reason I love it most, is because the video sees

Jake head back to his Nottinghamshire roots,

something he did literally this weekend before a show on his

sell out tour, to play at a little venue in Nottingham

called 'The Maze', where I've been,

and where Jake played some of his first shows many a year ago.

Some people from college managed

to go and you don't understand how jealous I am -_-

But anyhow, if you've never been to Nottingham before,

just watch this video.

Directed by 'This Is England's' Shane Meadows,

the video sees Jake go on a mad goose chase around various

Nottingham locations as he

makes off with a £20,000 ring (naughty boy) with which he wants

to use to propose to his pregnant fiance. 

It sounds crazy, and you're right, it is,

but it's funny and it's clever and it's set to a truly

awesome song by an incredibly talented musician.

ONE FOR THE ROAD, AKA. TRACTOR PROMO, AKA QUITE POSSIBLY THE BEST THING I'VE EVER WATCHED

You're yet to realise it yet, but my absolute FAVOURITE

BAND EVER TO EXIST EVER EVER EVER

is the Arctic Monkeys.

If you let me, I could literally rabbit on for hours 

and I mean, HOURS, as in, if you got me going now,

I could probably still be quacking on 365 days later,

I just love them that much.

And yes I know they're not everyone's cup of tea,

but I ruddy love them, and yesterday they released the video

for 'One For The Road', their third single of fifth

number 1 album 'AM'.

And you can't say you don't like them after watching it.

This band will forever amuse me because fame to them

is just something that came with success,

and they don't really give a crap about it, not like other

musicians or artists might do.

Just to give you a few examples as to what I mean, this

is the band who turned up to the Brits circa 2007, their first Brit awards may I add, dressed firstly as the Wizard of Oz quartet, and secondly as the members of the infamous YMCA.

This is the band who, for comeback single 'Do I Wanna Know', didn't even feature themselves in the video, 

despite a two year absence from the music scene.

This is the band who sung about pick and mix and gobstoppers and made it cool, the band whose lead singer looks like Elvis

re-incarnated yet still manages to look cooler than the King himself, if that were even possible. 

And in this video, they step things up a notch,

crank it up a tad just to put it one way....

If you've heard the song, or the album itself, you'll notice

a slight 90's R&B influence that's present

on numerous tracks, this being one of them. 

'One For The Road' in particular is probably the track that embodies this, and when you picture a video in your head,

you think instantly of house party, 

late night antics, 

cool cool cool and nothing less.

You don't, think TRACTORS.

So of course that's EXACTLY what the Monkeys have gone and decided to do.

Make a video about TRACTORS.

This would be like Kanye West & Jamie Foxx making the video for 'Gold Digger' and deciding to film it in a 

giant bubble bath floating around on giant yellow ducks.

IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

But I was absolutely WETTING MYSELF as I watched it.

You can see that the Monkeys are taking the mick, 

just because they can, but ugghhhhh it just works so well!

How they make tractor riding so cool I do not know...

I'd urge you watch the vid right now,

and in order to understand exactly how amazingly funny this

mad creation is, please please please skip to

0:57 and then come back and

laugh with me, because it's GENIUS.

COOL

Cool.

We all want to be it.

Heck, when I walk around college, I want people to look

at me and for even one split millisecond just maybe,

possibly think that I'm cool.

I don't know if they do, but we can all dream right?

To be cool, as in, proper cool,

as in, not 'popular crowd' cool, you need to radiate some sort

of fearless, head strong, assured vibe that other people

can pick up on and be like 'damn, wish I was like that'.

You need to be an individual, your own person,

wear what you want, be who you want, and hope that someone

somewhere is looking at you thinking

they want a piece of whatever it is that you're having.

So yeah COOL COOL COOL.
