THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL // WES ANDERSON

Yesterday I went with my family to see the absolutely WONDERFUL 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'

directed by the incredible Wes Anderson who makes every visual deliciously attractive to the eye

and in the most artistic of manners. 

If you're a sucker for aesthetics, this film will hold you in

absolutele bliss for its entire 99 minute duration, and when it comes to an end, it's like waking

up from a dream in the harsh realms of reality. The film is just that stunning. I wanted to 

stay in that magical little beautiful gem of a world that Anderson creates for us.

 And if that wasn't enough, I haven't even started on everything else that contributes to make this 

film easily one of the best I have ever seen.

I was intrigued to watch 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' firstly because of the above theatrical poster
(the power of good advertising), and because two Lit and Drama loving lads in my English class 

(yes they actually exist!) we're raving on about it, with one reason being the fabulously funny 

Bill Murray was in it. And aside from that, there is of course the star studded array of 

truly brilliant acting talent.

Ralph Fiennes dazzles as the extravagant concierge Gustave, newcomer Tony Revolori is glorious 

as young lobby boy and sidekick Zero, Jude Law makes an appearance with his seductive

and unapologetically British accent sounding as gorgeous as ever. And if that wasn't enough, 

you have Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody, Lea Seydoux, William Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum

and Tilda Swinton, to name but a few.

It's safe to say Anderson has well and truly plucked the very cream of the acting crop in this film.

And just to rave on about it a little bit more, The Grand Budapest is a real melting pot of different 

genres that are blended together and fantastically interwoven by some amazing writing

and imaginative talent to create a film that is funny, beautiful, gory at times, thrilling, consistently 

stunning, unpredictable in the best way possible and as my dear Dad said with the highest

of respects, 'utterly zany and eccentric'.

And he's right.

This film is not your typical film. It's unapologetically unique and it honestly is true film making

at it's best. It's crafted, acted, produced, written and directed to perfection and is

completely deserving of the 5 stars that are being repeatedly blasted its way.

All I can say is one word: WOW.

And lastly, GO AND SEE IT.

500 DAYS OF SUMMER

I can't remember how I found out about

500 Days of Summer because I certainly didn't watch it when 

it came out in cinemas five years ago (FIVE YEARS AGO!!) in 2009.

But I remember reading about it on Wiki, as I always do with

films I like or am interested in watching, and when I saw

the date 23rd May in the synopsis, which is when Tom meets 

Autumn and the date of my birthday, I was like, this is fate.

I really need to watch this film ASAP.

And when that DVD finally came into my ownership, it 

didn't let me down.

This is one of those films that is right up my street.

It's kind of arty and indie but in a good way, the right way,

and it never fails to make me feel good. 

It's the characters, the unique story line, the funny narrator,

the setting, the music, the way it makes me love life...

It makes me laugh, it makes me want to cry, it makes me want 

to go to Ikea and pretend I live there (which I actually have done). 

I want to go to record stores and movies and live in LA and go to 

that park hidden away in the city, and basically just have a cute 

relationship like Summer & Tom.

Oh and not to mention, it makes me want to be Zooey

Deschanel and have her gorgeous hair and style and singing voice. Seriously I was watching the movie again yesterday and 

I was so tempted to just cut my hair

like hers, even though it would not suit me at all.

So yes, I adore this film, it's one of a kind and it's

perfect and I will probably still be watching this when I'm

well past my best before date.

OH MY DISNEY

The other day I decided to google 

'Disney Quotes', as you do, and happened to stumble across some

beauties by a source named as 'Oh My Disney'.

Now I don't know who this 'Oh My Disney' is,

but they have a Tumblr blog on which they make some beautiful designs featuring Disney quotes, and seeing as I'm a big sucker for Disney, as you can guess, I adore them.

A MUCH NEEDED UGLY CHRISTMAS JUMPER PARTY

Hello everybody and festive greetings!

I'm writing to you today from a rather beautiful England,

minus the snow, as you'd expect.

I've been so busy this last week it's actually kind

of crazy, seeing as I'm not a person with whom you would associate

the word 'busy'.

When I find myself saying those sacred words 'I'm busy',

I must admit I widen my eyes in surprise that I, me, could

actually occupy that state of being

(man you can tell I take Eng Lit just by reading that last paragraph haha ^_^).

So, I hear you ask, what have I been doing then? Well since

last Wednesday I have.....

-Watched a college production of the Queen-tastic

WE WILL ROCK YOU WOOOOOH ROCK RULES!

-Had three university interviews, so I've been up to Newcastle,

Manchester and Sheffield, rockin' about in my black heels

feeling oh so very sophisticated despite also feeling

like I might collapse on the floor be-riddled with nerves.

-Made a friend on the train to Newcastle and we happen to know the

same people, and we shared some jelly snakes at her insistence.

She wouldn't take any of the grapes I offered in return though,

sad face :(

-Been working as a waitress (yes I can't believe it either) at some fabulous Chrimbo parties, dishing out food galore, nibbling on fudge, pannacotta, strawberries et al all whilst bashing out the groovy dance

moves as I go. So far I haven't dropped any plates 

(good girl right here) and I've handed out canapes too

BECAUSE I'M SO MATURE THESE DAYS.

AAHHHHHHHH.

-I literally just finished reading the amazing Harry Potter & The Order

of The Phoenix this morning, all 700 pages of it, having been glued to it

for a good part of a week and a half. 

I've taken it everywhere with me because it's just so addictive,

and it's a good job I've finished college now, because

this dilemma kept popping up:

what do I want to know more; do woodlice have a preference

for the light or dark, or how are Harry & co. getting on at

Hogwarts right at this very moment in time?

I think we all know the answer.

Woodlice.

But I can't find my copy of the Half Blood Prince anywhere so now

I'm stressing majorly *fans face and pouts dramatically*

-I had to do TWO TESTS IN THE SAME DAY and to top it all off

I'm sure I did crap so I was also majorly stressing out then as well,

and then on the bus home I couldn't stop laughing and

all this weirdness started pouring out of me and it culminated

with an intense discussion about the solar system and lemon slices.

This is what college does to you.

So I think you can agree that the perfect remedy

to all this madness was of course, 

AN UGLY CHRISTMAS JUMPER PARTY

and the photo you can see at the top of the page is my friends and

I having a proper naff moment posing in front of the christmas

tree in our awesome christmas jumpers.

(I'm second from the left and my jumper had a particularly groovy

christmas pud emblazoned on it, complete with 3D cherries)

And trust me, we had a ruddy awesome time.

We ordered chinese, we ate cocktail sausages and spring rolls,

some of my friends downed two bottles of rose (naughty naughty!) whilst some of us stuck to

juice & coke. We ate chocolate fudge cake, we watched

Love Actually (so cute!), laughed a  hell of a lot,

had a nice big girly chat and just let our hair down

and went ape shit crazy 

( but not too crazy- it was after all

a Wednesday)

And now I'm feeling all ready for Christmas, well kind of.

I'm going to whack on a film tomorrow night and snuggle up nice

and cosy, and what's double plus good, is

that the Harry Potter films are on ITV this week,

so all is good in the world now.

All is fabulous.

All is well.

All is good.

THE BREAKFAST CLUB

So I don't know if you've guessed....

but one of my favourite films EVER is John Hughes' 1985 classic

'THE BREAKFAST CLUB'.

I discovered it twenty eight years too late and

didn't even exist on this planet on it's tenth anniversary,

but that's not a problem my friend, because good films 

 always, always stand the test of time.

And this film is just AMAZING.

The Breakfast Club is about

five teenagers at Shermer High School who each happen to have

detention for various reasons one Saturday. 

Each represents a different

stereotype: the criminal, the princess,

the basket case, the athlete and the brain.

And the film focuses on how they initially

think they've got nothing in common and are nothing more

than their respective stereotypes.

 Yet by the end they release they all have something

 in common, and walk away with completely 

different opinions of each other and a new found respect and understanding that wasn't there before.

They realise that they are each so much more than their preconceived stereotypes.

It's an American high school classic, 

it's got a fab story line, witty, unique, memorable characters,

fantastic actors (namely Judd Nelson & 

Anthony Michael Hall), the bad boy good girl romance...

It's funny, it's poignant, thought provoking,

iconic, timeless, perfect. 

And I just thought you should know

(that's if you didn't already).

If you haven't watched The Breakfast Club 

already, you should also know that you will have a big crush

on Judd Nelson, aka. bad boy Bender,

 after you watch this, and you will also want geeky Brian

to be your new best friend. 

And the scene where Claire goes

to find Bender, and everything after that is

so heartwarming and lovely

and ooooooohhhhhhh I LOVE IT/ THEM SO MUCH.

My heart goes all tingly

just by writing about it! (:

I really could go on for absolutely ages about this

film, but I don't want to bore you.

But please, please, please

GO WATCH THIS FILM.

YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
